RIM Q2 Fiscal 2011 Results : Over 12 million blackberry’s shipped

Recently the Canadian mobile giant announced earnings and that a record 12 million BlackBerry smartphones were shipped in Q2 of the company’s fiscal 2011 .

Here are few Highlights:

• Revenue grew 31% over the same quarter last year to $4.62 billion
• Earnings per share in Q2 increased 76% to $1.46 over the Q2 last year
• BlackBerry smartphone shipments grew more than 45% over the same quarter last year to 12.1 million and RIM has shipped approximately 115 million BlackBerry smartphones to date
• BlackBerry subscriber account base grew approximately 56% over the prior year to over 50 million

“We expect a continuation of this momentum in the third quarter as we extend the rollout of new products including the BlackBerry Torch into additional markets and benefit from heavy promotional activities and increasing customer demand as we head into the holiday buying season,” said Jim Balsillie, the company’s co-CEO. RIM’s stock price rose slightly on new of the strong earnings report by 2% at time of publishing.

By the time we also hope new app developers join Blackberry application development and consider Blackberry as a viable platform for developing apps , with Blackberry shipping over 12 million devices shipping every year the smartphone market is getting really populated .

RIM in top 5 mobile manufacturers

Research In Motion makes its first appearance among the top five vendors worldwide, with total shipments surpassing those of Motorola by nearly 2 million units. According to IDC’s latest reports Research in motion is the 4th largest mobile manufacturer in terms of units shipped this year. RIM has been in the list of top 10 manufacturers previously , but getting in the list of top 5 manufacturers is a significant benchmark for RIM ,being a manufacturer of only smart phones . RIM shipped 10.6 million units in Q1 .
Research In Motion is the only vendor in the top 5 with a singular focus on smartphones, and as a result, the company enjoys the highest average selling prices within that group. In the first quarter the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 have been quite popular across multiple markets as well as its global prepaid offerings which were the key to its success. Blackberry has also been adopted globally particularly among text-crazy teens which has also fuelled demand for BlackBerry devices.
This would definitely give more Developers a chance to step in Blackberry development and cater the needs of App hungry Blackberry users in every possible way.
